  1. I’m guessing Loney was low enough that he wasn’t going to be protected as a Minor Leaguer for Big Timers, this is the only way I can see this deal making sense. I wouldn’t be surprised if Loney gets a shot this year after the break if the Dodgers aren’t in contention, and he could veru well be their starter in 07.

  2. I think that’s what a good number of these trades have been-guys unable to be protected, so get what you can.

  3. A lot of deals come down to whether or not you’re willing to let a player go. The midseason dump deals are in the same category. If you’re not willing to toss players back into the auction pool the next season, you’re not going to get full value for them when you’re making deals. You can’t let the keeper league aspect overwrite the actual value of a player.

  4. I like Loney but this came down to exactly what’s been speculated – I value 13 other guys ahead of him and would rather get a pick back than nothing in the expansion draft. I’ve got Huber at 1st this year and at least next, LaRoche and Edwin Encarnacion at 3rd, and Billy Butler at Util so a 1B prospect with not that high a ceiling to me wasn’t worth more than what I thought I could get back for Izzy on the trade marker later. Time will tell.
